I posted the previous two videos (invisible children and dear francis) below for us to see some of the things that are going on around the world… More importantly to help us realize that there are countless other terrible situations going on, which we are not even aware of, they could be in our own neighborhoods, towns and country. Turmoil is not only going on in Africa or other countries. I think that we tend (me included) to go on with our lives, push through everything we have to do, and put our blinders on…Somehow if we don’t see it, it is not there. We are too busy… have no extra money… have other commitments…and for sure have our own problems! That is just it- we are too comfortable in our lives to notice. We also feel that we are too inadequate to make a difference! Common excuses: I don’t have anything to offer… What can I do…. I am just not cut out for that. Many times we do not think that we have anything to offer after being exposed to extreme situations or watching documentaries like this, but we ALL have prayer to offer which is more powerful than we realize. We are blessed with an Almighty God who precedes all understanding and if we trust in Him, that is how things get done, and things change.
Our very existence, our families, heath, money, work, and successes are God’s gifts to us. We are helpless and need God everyday. We need to realize that God is more important than anything and trust that He will see us through.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3
Those who are poor in spirit know that God is more important than anything else in life. This also means to depend on God for everything. It means asking God for anything, at any time, knowing that God will respond. It means that we do not despair, but rather recognize our poverty and the need for God in our life. It is when we are being honest that we can recognize our own profound need, our intellectual limitations, our spiritual inadequacy, and our moral failures. Because of all that we have been blessed with we are to be Jesus to those around us and do all that we can. If we make our hearts available to the call that Jesus has placed on our lives, we will no longer be blind to the need around us and will be broken, and feel the call as to where we may be able to help.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
OK, so what am I doing personally? Right now, this is a challenge that I am dealing with as well… I don’t have the answers… but I know that God does. I have been praying that God would be revealed in these situations, encourage both those in need and those helping… but also that open my eyes to the need around me, things that are not mentioned in the news or on the Internet… and show me where I can help. I also am feeling called to get out of my comfort zone and travel to places that I can be a light to those in need and hopefully show them Jesus. Lord willing, I am starting to save and look towards some travel and missions work in the near future.
